 films i love the most

Cry-Baby (1990)

John Waters

Without hesitation the most important film of my life. Watched it for the first time back in 2011 and never fell more in love with a film ever since. In those 15 years, I discovered the rest of John Waters' discography and LOVED his style. Still, Cry-Baby stays 1st in my heart, even though it's not his most camp one (by far!). Even got a tattoo of Cry-Baby's car on me! I can only recommend, especially if you're a homosexual. Actually, I think you should look at everything John Waters filmed and wrote.

Les Demoiselles de Rochefort (1967)

Jacques Demy

Who doesn't like something so colourful and fun? The musics are great enough that I want to listen to them on the daily. I feel lucky that this film even exists! Can't wait to watch it again and again. Had the chance to see it at the movies, and the colours and musics were even more impactful on the big screen. Jacques Demy gifted us with so many wonderful films, and this one is in my top 3 films of all time because it touched me and stuck with me even more than the others but you definitely should check out his filmography.

Blue Velvet (1986)

David Lynch

The first time I watched this film, I was in high school and I didn't love it right away (already knew I loved David Lynch's style by then, but wasn't enough apparently). In retrospect I realise I wasn't ready. It's one of my favs films because it grew on me as the years went by. As for Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, I re-watched it at the cinema and its powerful scenes were so much more powerful. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, though, as it depicts touchy and possibly triggering stuff.

8 Femmes (2002)

Francois Ozon

Definitely the best music selection!!! Can't stop listening to them. As you can see, I love musicals and I'm gay so this one was clearly right up my alley. How could I not be a fan of a film that puts all these insufferable french actresses in beautiful dresses and make them fight each other with snappy lines and deathly stares? French cinema excellence in my opinion.

Nowhere (1997)

Gregg Araki

Saw it for the first time at the cinema and this couldn't have been more perfect. It was a double feature Gregg Araki screening: The Doom Generation and then Nowhere. I adored the first one but Nowhere really resonated with me. The teenager loneliness, sadness and lack of hope really made me feel seen and I wish I watched this film during high school or at least college. At the end, I went home and on the way there I remember feeling more complete than before and I know it sounds like a lot but really it was one of the best film screenings of my life...
The screening was a special event and there was a costume competition. I won by being the most sad punk f*g there (tbf not a lot of people participated unfortunately) and won a random DVD. Was fun!

Paranoid Park (2007)

Gus Van Sant

That sad teenage loneliness I talked about with Gregg Araki's Nowhere goes hand in hand with this one. Not the same feeling exactly because Nowhere aimed more at my gay side, but this one hits hard as well. What really worked for me was the autumnal scenery, the vibe, the calm silence and how teenage years are depicted. Gus Van Sant always finds a way to reach my heart even when I don't feel that attached to the story. At first, I enjoyed Paranoid Park aesthetically but didn't think much of it. It's after some days/weeks passed and I still found myself revisiting scenes and wanting to rewatch it already that I realised it stuck with me more than I anticipated. It talked to the wannabe sk8ter boi in me maybe...

Karuppu (2026)

RJ Balaji

Amazing songs and super cool scenes. Didn't enjoy all aspects of the film but had a great time watching it. Suriya never looked this good.

All about Lily Chou-Chou (2001)

Shunji Iwai

Watched: 15.05.2026
Unsurprisingly adored this. Couldn't keep myself from screenshoting every scene and changed my computer wallpapers as soon as I finished the film. Loved the songs and was delighted to learn that Lily Chou-Chou ended up existing lol. Ran to download some of the songs. If I saw this when I was a teenager, I would've ate this up. Still do ! I'll look into Shunji Iwai's other films and hopefully he kept this style.
Would've liked to see even more scenes in Yuichi's room because the lighting and the overall vibe of it was perfect.

Obsession (2025)

Curry Barker

I was very excited for this film because my boyfriend showed me the director's short films and they really scared me so I was curious to see what a feature-length film by him would offer. Turns out he definitely scared me too. Not as impactful as his other works in my opinion but that could also be becuase of the topic or the mood I was in. Either way, I didn't sleep very well the night after lol. Loved Inde Navarrette! Great actress!

Dead man's wire (2025)

Gus van sant

Watched: 20.04.2026
Finally returned to the cinema alone to treat myself to a solo double feature. Saw 'When morning comes, I feel empty' and then Dead man's wire. Had high expectations since I have a soft spot for Gus van sant and his autumn melancholia but unfortunately wasn't satisfied on that part. Still, the film was great and made me feel invested in the story from the very start. Bill Skarsgard really is a wonderful actor and his performance in this film was probably my fav of his! Would recommend watching other films by the same director, especially Paranoid park and Elephant.

The Drama (2026)

Kristoffer Borgli

Watched: 16.04.2026
Wanted to see this 100% because I have the biggest crush on Robert Pattinson. Ended up liking the film, even though it's not ground-breaking (doesn't have to be though!). My friend accompanied me to go see it even if she already saw it two weeks ago! Also a robert pattinson enjoyer... I don't think I should say much about the film or the subject of the drama, but I think it wasn't handled as bad as it could've been. Still some issues though, so it's a mix of a lot of opposite emotions.

Cactus Pears (2025)

Rohan Kanawade

Watched: 27.03.2026
This is one of the most gripping films about yearning that I've seen. Jane Austen would have loved this haha. Beautiful and powerful. I'm sure it's going to stick with me for years. One of my favorite things about this film is the mother and how much tenderness she has for her son. The calm sadness that this film makes you feel is something that's almost relaxing in a way. Very very happy that I wacthed it and would definitely watch it again in a few years. Watched it with friends and I recommend doing so because you might need a conforting presence after this watch.
